A professional VM practitioner is expected to act in accordance with a basic Code of Conduct:

- Maintain customers’ commercial confidentiality
- Notify the customer if there is a mismatch between the needs and expectations and highlight the means to achieve them
- Clearly identify the needs and expectations of customers and other stakeholders and aim to fulfil or exceed them
- Help others to reach professional fulfilment and promote a wider understanding of Value Management
- Keep abreast of their subject and contribute to its development.
